Common integration patterns
- Lipa Na M-Pesa Online (STK Push) — customer enters phone on your site; they approve on their handset.
- Paybill / Till — customer pays manually; your system matches payments using account reference and reconciliation files or callbacks.
- C2B validation & confirmation — server URLs that accept Safaricom callbacks and update order or invoice status idempotently.
What to engineer beyond “it works once”
Production integrations need callback verification, duplicate-safe processing (same receipt twice must not double-credit), clear admin reconciliation screens, and audit logs for finance. Timeouts and cancelled STK attempts should leave orders in a predictable state.
